More information

We have found one at very good value, he has a flawless action and is a fluent mover. Big, rangy colt, stands over ground and is a good size.

There is a lot to like. He has a lot of scope about him. This colt is a beautifully natured horse and is so relaxed, nothing bothers him.

A very classy individual with good angles, he has real presence about him. An early foal and showing signs of being an early 2yo runner.

He has completed being educated at Evergreen Stud, he is currently spelling and is expected to go into pre-training at the end of October.

He has an incredible rating based on his breeding pattern being an A+++ Nicks rating. He also has a Goldmine rating of 20/20. This rating is calculated on similar breeding patterns based on graded stakes winners, a 20/20 rating is excellent. There is an outstanding 38 group 1 winners bred on the same pattern including THE AUTUMN SUNFASTNET ROCKMISS FINLAND and NICONERO.

The colt has also passed 100% clean on his scope, x-ray and clinical examination.

He is a well bred colt having 22 Black type winners on his pedigree page.

The strikingly handsome and very fast SCISSOR KICK retired to Arrowfield alongside the dominant sire of sires REDOUTE’S CHOICE. Most significantly, Scissor Kick also hails from the stallion producing female family of Danehill’s champion European son DANSILI, the sire of over 100 Stakes winners and 19 Group 1 winners.

An impressive 2YO winner, Scissor Kick’s heady spring campaign established him among Australia’s best 3YO colts. He won the ATC Rosebud H. 1200m LR before heading the closest of quinellas with Panzer Division in the ATC Up and Coming S. 1300m G3. The photo finish went against Scissor Kick at his fifth start, in the ATC Golden Rose S. 1400m G1, but jockey Tye Angland had no doubt about the quality of his widely admired second-placed effort, saying afterwards “He’s a real fighter, best horse in the race”. Scissor Kick’s Autumn 3YO campaign began with success in the ATC Eskimo Prince S. 1200m G3, beating subsequent Group 1 winner Delectation.

He then joined Dissident, Wandjina & Chautauqua to complete the top four in the ATC All Aged S. G1, rated Australia’s best 1400-metre race over the past three years.is a precocious undefeated juvenile stakes winner.

Bjorn has worked for his father, Murray Baker (one of New Zealand’s most successful trainers), on and off at every opportunity from the time he could wield a fork.  Despite horse racing being in the blood, Bjorn graduated from Otago University in 1999 with a Bachelor of Pharmacy and spent over eight years in that profession before the pull of his horse-racing roots became too strong. He worked in New Zealand, Australia, England and Ireland throughout his pharmacy career which allowed him to attend many of Australasia’s and Europe’s great race meetings. With dreams of becoming a thoroughbred horse trainer, Bjorn decided to capitalise on his years overseas and spent time at The Curragh with Irish Hall of Fame trainer, John Oxx, and in Belmont, New York with master US trainer, Christophe Clement.

In 2007, Bjorn decided to forgo his Pharmacy career and join Murray in the family business.  On Bjorn’s first foray with a horse to Australia he accompanied Nom Du Jeu on his highly successful Autumn Carnival campaign in 2008, winning the AJC Derby at 40-1. After proving his worth, Bjorn then entered into a training partnership with Murray from the start of the 2008/09 season; in both the 2008/09 season and 2010/11 Baker Racing won more prize money than any other New Zealand based stable.  Bjorn remained in partnership with his father, Murray, for three seasons during which they won in excess of 30 Stake Races.  Bjorn continues to maintain a strong working relationship with his father in New Zealand, and It’s A Dundeel was stabled with Bjorn during his recent Triple Crown (Randwick Guineas, Rosehill Guineas and ATC Derby) in the Autumn of 2013. The highlight of the partnership was in 2010 when Lion Tamer won the prestigious VRC Derby.

Since arriving in Sydney Bjorn has not only produced results with stayers such as Cantonese and Mr Tipsy as expected with his background; he has also produced numerous 2yo winners including Unencumbered, Winning Rupert, Twilight Royale, Fuerza and Brilliant Terror (sold to HK) and recently produced his first Group 1 winner with Music Magnate winning the Doomben 10,000.

Bjorn finished the 2017/2018 racing season in sixth position on the NSW Trainers Premiership having 106 winners including 36 Metropolitan winners. Now in his eighth season training in Australia, he continues to grow from strength to strength which continually sees him beating his previous season’s record.
